Soulrend Boss Order and Boss Catalog (65 Bosses)

This page collects all 65 bosses of Soulrend v8.5.2 on individual cards: where each one is, how it is summoned, what level it spawns at, how much health it can lose per second, what it drops and what the pack's files say about it. How to read a boss card

The catalog has 65 cards in quest-book order: first the main line from Act II to Act V, then the side chapters, and last the bosses that never appear in the quest book. The top of each card gives the boss's name, its mod and its place in the quest book. Names are in English. Below that are up to six fields; cards with no tips have no Tips field:

  • Location: the structure, biome or dimension where the boss spawns.
  • Summoning: whether it appears on its own or is called with an item or a script.
  • Level: the value in the pack's level files (see below).
  • Damage budget: the most health the boss can lose in one second (below).
  • Loot: the loot table that applies after the pack's changes. A Scroll is an Iron's Spells scroll that carries a random spell.
  • Tips: only what the pack's files say: quest text, config files, the Ice and Fire bestiary and in-game messages. Conclusions drawn from several files are marked as such.

No health numbers, on purpose

The pack strengthens every mob by its level: each level adds 0.3 to maximum health and 0.1 to attack damage. Whether that bonus is multiplied into base health or added on top could not be settled from the pack's files, and the two readings give very different numbers for the same boss. Rather than print a wrong health figure, every card gives the level and the damage budget. In game you can see how tough a boss is from its health bar. (The written base values of the Past bosses are on the Acts IV–V page; the final health is still unknown.)

The four cases in the Level field

  • Fixed: the level file gives a single value; the boss spawns at that level regardless of yours (Ender Dragon 467, the Cataclysm bosses 250).
  • Base: the file gives a floor. If the average of nearby players is higher, that applies instead; this behavior is inferred from the game files.
  • Player level: the boss has no entry of its own; it spawns at the average level of the players within 60 blocks (1–200).
  • Does not level: the boss is on AutoLeveling's exclusion list and its level never rises.

Confidence notes and images

An unlabeled sentence was read from the pack's files; when the source is a quest text, a mod description or a bestiary, the sentence says so. If it ends with Inferred from the game files. the fact comes from reading several files together; if it ends with According to the wiki. the only source is the Soulrend wiki. "If a player kills it" in the loot list means that entry drops only when a player finishes the boss.

The small pictures on the cards are the mods' own textures (credits at the bottom of the page). For bosses without a texture, or whose texture does not read as a portrait, original OpenMoon silhouettes were drawn; a silhouette hints at the kind of creature, not at how it looks in game.

Boss order: the short route by Act

In the quest book's locks, beating a boss is required in only two places: Ender Dragon must die to move from Act IV to Act V, and Act V's last quest, Blessing of Mortusest, comes after both the Ó Brolacháin, The Scarlet Hunter and Arterius, The Last Watcher quests. Going from Act I to Act II needs three zombies, not a boss. The other bosses are worth doing for seal shards, portal eyes, skill tree locks or gear. The seal shards and the Nether Crystal also have a boss-free chance route.

Order by level

Bosses with a fixed or base level are listed below by level. The ones missing here spawn at your level or never level. Level is not the only measure of difficulty: the damage budget, ranged-attack immunity and phase changes also shape a fight.

Damage budget and Boss Ultimatum

The pack caps how much health 33 bosses can lose in one second: the eight Cataclysm bosses lose at most 5% of their maximum health per second, the others at most 20%, and the excess is blocked. So a Cataclysm fight lasts at least 20 seconds and the others at least 5. One of those 33 bosses (Tremorzilla) is not in the catalog, which leaves 32 bosses with a budget on their cards. Bosses whose card says "No cap defined by the pack" have no per-second cap. The two Act V bosses in the Past instead have a per-hit cap from their own mod; the values are on their cards.

Warning: If the boss kills you, its health is set to half

The Boss Ultimatum mod adds a rule to Cataclysm and Soulslike Weaponry bosses: if such a boss kills you directly, its health is set to half its maximum; difficulty and death count do not matter. Below half, that is a heal; the code also pulls health above half down to half (not observed in game). Dying near the boss from something else does not count. Details: Boss Ultimatum · damage budget.

Cataclysm bosses also ignore attacks from beyond a set distance; each one's distance is on its card, and they are listed together on the End portal page.

Limits and unverified facts

The catalog was compiled from the pack's installed files; it was not tested in game card by card. The following could not be settled from the files, so the cards either leave them out or mark them clearly:

  • Health numbers: how the level bonus applies could not be settled (above).
  • Level of the Past bosses: the Past dimension's level file gives a very high value, but it is not verified that the pack's level resolver reads dimension files. The cards show the player level.
  • Summoning triggers: the trigger for the Bosses'Rise spawners and the Nightwarden, and the location of Day Stalker and Night Prowler, were not found.
  • Cataclysm structures: whether they also generate in the Overworld could not be settled; the cards give the dimension route.
  • Ice and Fire dragons: their loot tables live in the mod's code and were not read.

If a card differs in your game, report it on the contact page; values can also change when the pack is updated.

Craftable boss weapons do not drop

The pack strips craftable boss weapons (#soulrend:all_crafted, ~830 items) from mob drops: Tidal Claws, Moonlight Greatsword, Darkin Blade, Oath and similar weapons do not drop from bosses; craft them instead. The tag is defined in The Config of Alexandria's config files; the pack's loot config (loot.toml) removes that tag and a few named items (Familiar trinkets included) on every mob death, whichever table or mod added them. These items are left out of the cards' loot lists and named in each card's tips. Player deaths are not affected.

Frequently asked questions

What is the boss order in Soulrend?

The quest book splits the bosses by Act: Act II has the Bosses'Rise trio, the Warden, Sunleia and Kamath; Act III has the Nether bosses, the Wither and the eight Cataclysm bosses; Act IV has the Ender Dragon and the optional Nightwarden; Act V has the Scarlet Hunter and Arterius in the Past. Act II also has ten optional bosses (Ernos, the Dead King, the Ice and Fire hunts). Side-chapter bosses can be done whenever you like.

Which bosses are required in Soulrend?

Only two quest locks need a boss: the Ender Dragon to reach Act V, and both the Scarlet Hunter and Arterius quests for Act V's last quest. The lock from Act III to Act IV does not need the Eight Sins; although the quest text says four Sins, the lock checks 5 of the 16 eye quests and entering the End.

Why does the catalog show no boss health?

The pack strengthens each boss by its level, and how that bonus is calculated could not be settled from the files. Instead of a wrong number, every card gives the level and the damage budget.

What is the boss damage budget?

The most health a boss can lose in one second. The pack caps it for 33 bosses: the eight Cataclysm bosses lose at most 5% of their health per second, the others 20%. Damage from every player and spell comes out of the same budget.

Does a boss get stronger when it kills me?

For Cataclysm and Soulslike Weaponry bosses, yes: if such a boss kills you directly, the Boss Ultimatum mod sets its health to half its maximum; difficulty and death count do not matter. Below half, that is a heal. Dying near it from something else does not count.

Which bosses drop End portal eyes?

Three bosses: the Infernal Dragon drops the Evil Eye (its only source), the Yeti the Cold Eye at 100%, and the Wither drops the Wither Eye from two separate 90% pools.
