- Learn the portal rule: the Act IV quest wants 5 eyes, the portal 12 different ones.
- Choose which 12 of the 16 eye sources you will collect.
- See the eye recipes for the Eight Sins and the damage budget.
- Get the Knight Sword in the Nether to unlock 54 skill tree nodes.
- Decide whether to do Act III-b: it is optional and unlocks nothing.

What Act III contains
The moment you craft the seal, Act III - Into The Flames opens in the quest book. The chapter has 72 quests and its first one, Into the Flames, is a checkbox; its reward is a
Runic Tablet. Every Act III branch depends only on this quest; do them in any order.
- Nether structures Nether Fortress, The Cathedral, Underworld Arena and the Citadel (Nether).
- The Wither You summon the Wither yourself (Wither).
- Eight Sins Eight Cataclysm dimensions and their bosses; optional (Eight Sins).
- Legendary Eyes and the End Finish 5 of the 16 eye quests and enter the End: Act III completes and Act IV opens. The portal needs 12 different eyes (portal rule).
The Legendary Eye (one of the 16 special eyes that go into the End portal) quests are not inside Act III but in a separate chapter, Journey To The End. It opens from the Journey To The End / Magical Eyes button in Act II, so you can start collecting eyes before you ever enter the Nether (Act II side branches).
Act III side branches
- The Nether: a separate chapter gathering the Nether's structure quests; it opens from the button in Into the Flames' rewards.
- The Caverns: the five cave dimensions of Alex's Caves and the boss of each. The recipes for the dimension keys need boss materials; the bosses are in the catalog.
- Eight Sins weapons: after each Sin, a quest opens for a Cataclysm weapon made from that boss's materials (Soul Render, The Annihilator, The Immolator…).
Quest book correction: The quest book says: The button reads “Move to Simply NightFall Chapter”. (Into the Flames' rewards)
In practice: The button's target does not exist in the pack; clicking it opens nothing. No step of Act III depends on this button.
The portal rule: 5 eye quests, 12 different eyes
Warning: The key lock: 12 different eyes
The quest that opens Act IV asks for any 5 of the 16 eye quests and for you to enter the End dimension. But entering the End means lighting the portal, and the portal needs 12 DIFFERENT Legendary Eyes in 12 frames.
- An Eye of Ender cannot be placed. The pack turns off placing the vanilla eye in a frame.
- A placed eye does not come back out. You cannot take an eye back from a frame.
- The same eye cannot be placed twice. If you try to place an eye type that is already in the portal, the game says “This eye can't be placed”.
- All 16 types can be obtained. You place 12 and keep 4 as spares.
Aim for 12 different eyes from the start.
The frame block is the
Ancient Portal Frame (the pack's End portal frame block). The portal room has 12 of them: three on each side of the 3×3 portal area. The frames come empty; none has an eye in it.
Eye quests do not take the eye
The pack's quest book does not take items for item quests: an eye quest only wants to see the eye in your inventory. So the same eye completes its quest and then goes into the portal. The eye quests cannot complete until the End Remastered quest (one Ender Pearl) is done.
Before placing an eye, check in the quest book that its quest is complete. A placed eye does not come back, so if you place an eye whose quest is unfinished, you cannot finish that quest with the same eye (inferred from the game files).
Quest book correction: The quest book says: “Defeat at least Four Sins to unlock Act IV.” (the Eight Sins quest text)
In practice: The Act IV lock does not require any Sin. The lock quest depends only on 5 of the 16 eye quests and on entering the End. The Sins are worth doing for loot and gear.
Quest book correction: The quest book says: “To activate the End portal, you'll need to find 16 of the Legendary Eyes.” (the Journey To The End intro text)
In practice: The portal has 12 frames and 12 different eyes are enough. There are 16 eye types; 4 are spares.
The stronghold and the portal room
The portal room is inside the pack's reworked stronghold; the quest text says the structure has “many enemies and rooms”. Only a thrown Legendary Eye finds the stronghold. The Eye of Ender cannot be thrown: the game says “This eye doesn't know where to go” (the throw_ender_eye line in the config is never read by the code). A thrown Legendary Eye never breaks; it drops and you pick it up again. Follow its direction to the stronghold; the structure is full of enemies, so go in prepared.
The 16 Legendary Eyes and their sources
The cards sort the 16 eyes from easy to hard by the quest book's difficulty note. Chest percentages are per chest, mob and boss percentages per kill. The pack does not change these tables; it adds three recipes and the Cryptic Eye's enchanting route.

Corrupted Eye
Pillager outpost chest (30%).
Quest book difficulty: 1/10

Nether Eye
Nether Fortress chest (30%).
Quest book difficulty: 2/10

Wither Eye
The Wither (its eye pool rolls twice, 90% each) or a Wither Skeleton (10%).
Quest book difficulty: 2/10

Witch Eye
Recipe: Eye of Ender + Witch Pupil. The pupil drops from Witches (10%) or is made on a smithing table from a spider eye + phantom membrane + ghast tear.
Quest book difficulty: 3/10

Old Eye
Desert pyramid chest (15%), dungeon chest (2.5%).
Quest book difficulty: 4/10

Cryptic Eye
An Eye of Ender on the Apotheosis enchanting table: Eterna 20–25, Quanta 10, Arcana 25–30. The mod's own enchanting route is turned off; the pack adds this recipe.
Quest book difficulty: 4/10

Lost Eye
Abandoned mineshaft chest (20%), dungeon chest (2.5%).
Quest book difficulty: 5/10

Rogue Eye
Jungle pyramid chest (40%).
Quest book difficulty: 5/10

Cursed Eye
Bastion treasure chest (50%).
Quest book difficulty: 5/10

Guardian Eye
An Elder Guardian (30%) or smithing: tide armor trim + Eye of Ender + netherite ingot.
Quest book difficulty: 6/10

Undead Eye
Recipe: Undead Soul + phantom membrane + bone + rotten flesh + ghast tear. The Undead Soul drops from skeleton horses (25%) or is made from 8 black steel nuggets + soul sand.
Quest book difficulty: 7/10

Exotic Eye
Recipe: Eye of Ender + four corals (fire, bubble, horn, tube) + 2 conduits + 2 glow ink sacs.
Quest book difficulty: 7/10

Black Eye
Buried treasure (30%), shipwreck treasure (5%) or the recipe: Heart of the Deep (the item that opens the Otherside portal) + Eye of Ender.
Quest book difficulty: 8/10

Magical Eye
Woodland mansion chest (10%) or an Evoker (5%).
Quest book difficulty: 8/10

Cold Eye
The Yeti (100%) or an igloo chest (70%).
Quest book difficulty: 9/10

Evil Eye
Only the Infernal Dragon (100%). The Cleric villager trade is turned off.
Quest book difficulty: 10/10
Which 12 eyes?
The difficulty note depends on your route:
- If you finished Act II, two eyes may already be yours. The Yeti drops the Cold Eye and the Infernal Dragon the Evil Eye, both 100%; the book rates them 9 and 10. The Bottom-Right shard needs two of three bosses; if you beat the Yeti and the Infernal Dragon, both eyes are ready.
- The Wither Eye is Act III's own job. It comes when you summon and beat the Wither (Wither).
- The Nether Eye and the Cursed Eye come from Nether chests (Nether Fortress, bastion treasure).
- The Black Eye's recipe route is a chain. The Heart of the Deep depends on The Decaying King's loot (Decaying King). A buried treasure chest may be quicker.
These suggestions were inferred from the drop chances and recipes in the files; the game does not force an order on you.
Intermediate items
Some sources drop an intermediate item instead of the eye: the Witch Pupil (Witch Eye) and the Undead Soul (Undead Eye). Both also have a mob-free recipe route. You reach the Cryptic Eye's Eterna, Quanta and Arcana values with bookshelves; the quest book's Enchanting Module chapter gives the values for each shelf.
The Nether: structures, the Wither and The Decaying King
The Nether branches rest on four structures and none is part of the Act IV lock; their most lasting reward is the Knight Sword's skill tree nodes. Levels and budgets are in the boss list.
Nether Fortress and Burning Ashes
You complete Find Structure: Nether Fortress by entering a fortress. The next quest wants
Burning Ashes, with a count of 4. Ignited Berserkers drop Burning Ashes with a 25% chance. It is a leaf quest: the reward is 3 Estus Flasks and no other quest depends on it.
Quest book correction: The quest book says: “You'll need Burning Ashes, dropped from Ignited Berserkers in Nether Fortresses with a 25% chance.” (the Eye of Flame quest text)
In practice: The Eye of Flame recipe has no Burning Ashes: 3 blaze powder + 2 netherite scrap + 1 Eye of Ender + 3 soul sand. The pack does not change this recipe. Collect Burning Ashes only for the quest above and some weapon recipes.
The Cathedral and the High Priest
The Cathedral is a structure found in crimson forest and nether wastes biomes; the High Priest lives inside. Beating him opens a small quest that wants Fleshy Cloth and rewards 2 Huge Estus Flasks.
Underworld Arena and the Knight Sword
Underworld Arena spawns in nether wastes and soul sand valley biomes (the quest spells it “Underworld Area”). The Underworld Knight inside drops the
Knight Sword. Picking this sword up yourself once unlocks 54 skill tree nodes: the subclass keystones of the Warrior, Rogue and Ranger trees (18 in total) and the Mage's 36 school keystones. It follows on from the 21 nodes the Nether Crystal unlocks (locked nodes). The quest that asks for the sword also gives 2 Huge Estus Flasks.
Playing as a group
The requirement is each player's own “picked up” statistic: a sword handed over does not count, but dropping it and letting each player pick it up is enough (inferred from the game files). The same rule applies to the Nether Crystal (details).
The Citadel and Echo of Tyros
According to the quest text, the Citadel is a big black castle with a glass dome; a Cinderous Soul Rune block sits in the middle of the dome. Ring a
Cinderous Soulcaller next to it, and the Echo of Tyros, First Flamebearer that appears drops a
Decrepit Key when beaten. The Citadel's vaults open with keys like trial chamber vaults; the quest text tells you to get Pyrium from them.
Summoning the Wither
The Prepare the Ritual quest wants 4 Soul Sand and 3 Wither Skeleton Skulls. Since quests do not take items, you can summon the Wither with the same materials. The next quest, Confront The Wither, is an advancement quest and completes the moment you summon the Wither; its reward is 3 Huge Estus Flasks.
Even though the quest is done, beating the Wither is worth it: the Wither's eye pool rolls twice at 90% each, so one Wither usually drops two Wither Eyes. Wither Skeletons also drop the eye with a 10% chance. The second eye is no spare for the portal, because the same eye cannot be placed twice.
The boss with no Act III quest: The Decaying King
The Decaying Kingdom structure in the Nether holds The Decaying King; Act III has no quest for it, and in practice it is always level 200. According to the wiki, the
Withered Demon Heart drops from it. That item goes into the Heart of the Deep recipe (recipe), and the Heart of the Deep opens both the entry to Act III-b and the Black Eye's recipe route.
The “Find Decaying King” quest in Act V describes a different creature, the soldier in the Past (Galactic Core).
Loot rarity in the Nether
On loot converted to affix items, the rarity ceiling rises with the dimension: uncommon in the Overworld, rare in the Nether, epic in the End (the game reads only the first two values on each config line). The line-by-line values are on the Combat and equipment page. Apotheosis's own bosses also spawn naturally only in the Nether and on the End's outer islands.
The Eight Sins: eight eyes, eight dimensions, eight bosses
Eight Sins (the Act III quest that gathers the eight Cataclysm bosses) brings together eight Cataclysm bosses. Each boss has its own dimension, and you enter that dimension with an eye you craft. These eyes are not the End portal's Legendary Eyes; they do not go into the portal. The pack raises all eight Sins' health: ×1.2 for six, ×1.3 for The Harbinger and Scylla (mod default ×1). The map may show biome names that differ from the quest book: Sanctum Fallen, Bastion of the Lost, Soulforge Anvil.
- Craft the eye. The recipes are in the table below.
- Hold Shift and right-click. With the eye in hand, Shift + right-click takes you to that eye's dimension.
- Enter the dimension. The quest for first entering each dimension rewards a Warp Scroll; plan your way back with it.
- Beat the boss. Each Sin quest rewards a Wisdom Scroll (+1 skill point), 5 XP levels and a random Chipped Gem.
| Boss | Eye and recipe | Long-range cut-off |
|---|---|---|
| Ancient Remnant | 14 blocks | |
| Scylla | 10 blocks | |
| The Harbinger | 35 blocks | |
| Ignis | 150 blocks | |
| Ender Guardian | 100 blocks | |
| Maledictus | 10 blocks | |
| Netherite Monstrosity | 18 blocks | |
| The Leviathan | 38 blocks |
The quest book spells the eye “Eye of Monsterous”; the item in game is the Eye of Monstrous. For the Eye of Mech, the mod's recipe is the easier route: the pack removed Create's andesite alloy recipe, so that material only comes from scrapping and Create villages.
The damage budget and Boss Ultimatum in a Sin fight
The eight Sins are in the 5% damage budget group: they lose at most 5% of their maximum health per second, so a Sin fight lasts at least 20 seconds and burst damage is wasted. On a budgeted boss, only the damage the budget lets through counts toward your Soulrend level, too. The Sins have a fixed level of 250. How the budget works is on the Combat and equipment page.
Warning: Boss Ultimatum: dying sets a Sin's health to half
If a Cataclysm or Soulslike Weaponry boss kills you directly, its health is set to half its maximum; difficulty and death count do not matter. Below half, that is a heal; the code also pulls health above half down to half (not observed in game). All eight Sins fall under this rule: dying after you have brought a boss below half wipes out that progress. Details: Boss Ultimatum.
The long-range cut-off
Each Sin is immune to attacks from beyond a certain distance; the distances are in the last column of the Eight Sins table. If you play an archer or a caster, stay inside the limit: 10 blocks for Scylla and Maledictus and 14 for Ancient Remnant count as close range. The Leviathan also takes no damage while out of water (the game says it is “invincible outside of water”).
Act III bosses: the short list
For loot and tactics, follow each name to its card in the boss catalog. Levels and budgets read the same way as in the Act II list.
Nether bosses
- Underworld Knight · Underworld Arena · level 150 · no budget. Its Knight Sword unlocks 54 skill tree nodes.
- High Priest · The Cathedral · level 150 · 20% budget. The follow-up quest gives Huge Estus Flasks.
- Echo of Tyros, First Flamebearer · the Citadel, with a Cinderous Soulcaller · level 100 · 20% budget. Drops the key for the Citadel vaults.
- Wither · you summon it · at least 150 · 20% budget. The main source of the Wither Eye.
- The Decaying King · Decaying Kingdom · at least 200 · 20% budget. Not in the quests; matters for the Withered Demon Heart.
Eight Sins bosses
All eight have a fixed level of 250 and a 5% budget; how to enter is in the Eight Sins table. Catalog cards: Ancient Remnant, Scylla, The Harbinger, Ignis, Ender Guardian, Maledictus, Netherite Monstrosity, The Leviathan.
Act III-b's boss, the Corrupted Champion, is below in its own section.
Act III-b: Deeper and Darker (optional)
Optional, a dead end
Act III-b carries the subtitle “This act is optional” in the quest book and unlocks nothing; the road to Act IV does not pass through this chapter. The only reasons to do it are the Otherside dimension, its boss and its loot.
The chapter opens from the The Otherside quest in Act II. Entry requires the
Heart of the Deep; the Warden no longer drops it, so you craft it. Because of the Withered Demon Heart in the recipe, in practice this branch happens during Act III (The Decaying King).
- Open the portal. Clear the Sculk Veins inside the Otherside portal frame and right-click it with the Heart of the Deep.
- Find the Ancient Temple. The temple quest points you to the Sculk Transmitter; its subtitle in the quest book reads “Used to summon...”.
- Go to the Lich Prison. Right-clicking the altar with the Sculk Transmitter wakes the Corrupted Champion. If one is already within 50 blocks, the game says “The Lich has already been awakened!” and does not summon a second.
- Finish the Bone Staff quests. After the boss come five Bone Staff quests; the last one closes Act III-b. Each kill drops a single Bone Staff of a random colour (five colours, 20% each); the five quests take at least five kills.
The Corrupted Champion (graveyard:lich): its level is between 300 and 310 and it has no damage budget. The Shriek Worm in the Otherside ignores damage from more than 7 blocks away, and the game warns “Too far away!”.
If you are stuck
- It says “This eye can't be placed”: that eye type is already in the portal. Place a different eye (portal rule).
- It says “This eye doesn't know where to go”: you threw an Eye of Ender; only a Legendary Eye finds the stronghold (stronghold).
- 12 eyes are in but Act IV did not open: check in the Journey To The End chapter that at least 5 eye quests are finished (eye quests).
Act III checklist
Tick off the steps of Act III and the optional Act III-b here. Marks are stored only in this browser and share the same record as the series checklist on the Getting started page.
Act III - Into The Flames
- Confront The Wither completes on summoning; beat the Wither for the Wither Eye.
- Pick up the Knight Sword yourself: 54 skill tree nodes unlock.
- The portal needs 12 different Legendary Eyes; no Eye of Ender, and placed eyes stay.
Act III - Deeper and Darker optional
Next step: Act IV and the Ender Dragon
When you step into the End, Act III completes and Act IV - Beyond Reality opens. The first big target is the Ender Dragon, fixed at level 467. If you skipped Scylla in the Eight Sins, note this: the Ender Dragon quest's rewards include an Eye of Storm.

Frequently asked questions
How many eyes does the End portal need in Soulrend?
- The portal room has 12 Ancient Portal Frames and each needs a different Legendary Eye. The pack has 16 eye types, so 4 are spares. The 5 eye quests the Act IV quest asks for are not enough to light the portal.
Do I have to beat the Eight Sins bosses for Act IV?
No. Although the quest text says to beat at least four Sins, the lock quest requires none; it depends only on 5 of the 16 eye quests and on entering the End. The Sins are worth doing for Wisdom Scrolls, loot and gear.
Is the Eye of Ender any use for the End portal?
No. An Eye of Ender cannot be placed in a frame and cannot be thrown either: the game says “This eye doesn't know where to go”. A thrown Legendary Eye finds the stronghold, and it never breaks. A placed eye cannot be removed and the same eye cannot be placed twice.
Does the Eye of Flame need Burning Ashes?
No. The quest text says so, but the recipe is 3 blaze powder, 2 netherite scrap, 1 Eye of Ender and 3 soul sand. Burning Ashes are used only in a separate quest after the Nether Fortress and in some weapon recipes.
Is Act III-b required?
No. The quest book marks it as optional and the chapter unlocks nothing. The road to Act IV runs through Act III itself.
