MTV is paid in two equal installments, one in January and one in July.

How Is the MTV Amount Determined?

The motor vehicle tax (MTV) is read from a fixed tariff table — based on your vehicle's engine size (or motor power for electric vehicles) and its age — that the Ministry of Treasury and Finance publishes in the Official Gazette every year. For cars registered on or after 1/1/2018, the vehicle's value is also used as a breakdown in the tariff (Tariff I); for vehicles registered before that date, only the engine size and age are needed (Tariff I/A).

When to use it: to see your annual tax burden in advance before buying a used car (since MTV decreases in steps as a vehicle ages, this is an important factor in a purchase decision), to compare the tax burden of a petrol/diesel vehicle against an electric one, to plan how much to set aside in your yearly budget for the January and July installments, or to compare the long-term tax cost of different engine size options (e.g. 1600 cc versus 2000 cc).

The calculation picks the correct tariff table (I or I/A) based on the registration date you select, applies your engine size bracket and vehicle age (and, under Tariff I, your vehicle value) to the tariff, and shows the result both as an annual total and as two equal installment amounts for January/July. Since there's no separate tariff table for electric vehicles, your motor power (kW) is first mapped to the corresponding engine size bracket in Tariff I, and 25% of that amount is taken.

The 2026 tariff table embedded in this tool is based on Communiqué No. 58 published in the Official Gazette, and MTV amounts are redetermined every December according to the revaluation rate — so the tariff needs to be updated by hand every year. Results are for informational purposes; for the official assessment, rely on GİB's Interactive Tax Office or e-Devlet. The vehicle information you enter is processed entirely in your browser and is never sent to any server.

Frequently Asked Questions

MTV is read from a fixed tariff table that the Ministry of Treasury and Finance sets each year, based on the vehicle's engine size bracket and age (model year). For cars registered for the first time on or after 1/1/2018 (Tariff I), the vehicle's value is also used as an extra breakdown; for vehicles registered on or before 31/12/2017 (Tariff I/A), only engine size and age are needed.

The difference is based on the vehicle's first registration date: cars registered from 1/1/2018 onward fall under Tariff I, while those registered before that date fall under Tariff I/A. In Tariff I, the same engine size bracket is split into several value-based rows (tax increases as the vehicle's value increases); Tariff I/A has no such value breakdown.

There is no separate tariff table for electric vehicles. The vehicle's motor power (kW) is mapped to one of the engine size brackets in Tariff I (e.g. 150-180 kW corresponds to the 2501-3000 cm³ bracket), and 25% of that row's amount is taken as the MTV — the registration date isn't taken into account in this case.

MTV is paid every year in two equal installments, one in January and one in July. Payment can be made through the Revenue Administration's Interactive Tax Office, via e-Devlet, at banks or at PTT branches. The amounts shown by this tool are for informational purposes; check GİB/e-Devlet for the official, exact amount.
